Chances are if you are buying any types of food storage container that is made of some sort of polycarbonate plastic material or epoxy resin, then you would want to make sure it is BPA-free before you purchase it.
What is BPA?
Bisphenol A, commonly known as BPA, is an industrial chemical that has been used to make certain types of plastics and resins since the early 60s. Most commonly they are found in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Research has shown that BPA can leak into food or beverages from certain types of food containers. Although BPA remains a controversy among researchers based on the perilous effects it may have on others, some researchers say that BPA has a negative effect on the brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children. The Food and Drug Administration now shares the same level of concern and is encouraging everyone to less exposure of BPA products by finding alternatives to such products.
Epoxy resins can be used to coat the inside of metal products, like food cans, baby formula, bottle tops and water supply lines.
Polycarbonate plastics are used in many food and beverage storage containers. Not all polycarbonate products actually have BPA chemicals inside of them. G.E.T.
