Freight FAQ

What is Freight Delivery?

Products or orders that are too heavy to ship via standard ground carriers like UPS or Fedex are shipped via Freight carrier. Freight carriers are full size semi-trucks that deliver product to the end user. For freight delivers the customer is responsible for removing the product from the freight truck and into your business. (*Please Note: If lift-gate service is ordered the carrier will lower the product from the truck for you and you will be responsible for moving the item inside your location. We do not offer inside delivery.)

How is Freight Delivery done differently?

It’s always important that you inspect your shipment for damage when it arrives. Follow the steps below:

  1. Inspect the outer packaging for damages.
  2. Remove the product from its carton and inspect it closely for physical damage.
  3. If you find significant damages REFUSE THE SHIPMENT AND DON’T SIGN THE DELIVERY RECEIPT. If the damage is minor and you would like to accept the shipment, please do so by signing the delivery receipt as “DAMAGED” and we will assist you with getting compensation for damages. If you are concerned about the functionality of the equipment, it’s best to refuse the delivery completely.
  4. If you refused the shipment or sign as damaged, please contact us immediately in order to start the replacement or credit process. If we do not hear from you within 48 hours, we will be unable to assist you.

(*Please Note: If you DO NOT refuse the shipment and accept it “as is” without notating any damage JES is unable to assist you in filing a claim with the carrier. It is VERY important that you inspect the entire shipment at delivery and notate any issues.)

Thoroughly inspect package for damage before accepting delivery.

What is a Liftgate Service?

Lift-gate service is offered by most freight carriers. When you select lift-gate, the truck will arrive with a motorized platform attached to the back of the truck that can physically lower the truck’s heavy content to the ground. There may be size or weight limitations to lift-gate service so if you order the service online, we will contact you if there are any unforeseen issues.

What is a delivery appointment?

If you select to get lift-gate service, the carrier will contact you to schedule a delivery appointment. This is usually a 4-hour window, and you will need to be present for the delivery. If you are not going to be present, please designate someone at your location to receive the freight according to the policies specified above. For residential deliveries, delivery appointments are often required. If you absolutely require a delivery appointment, please contact us immediately.

What if I need additional services at time of delivery?

Additional freight services at delivery are not authorized unless requested at the time of order. Please read your shipping receipt closely prior to signing for your items. Initialing extra services not originally agreed upon (i.e. lift-gate service, inside delivery, etc.) constitutes your legal agreement to pay the additional fees added by the carrier and that aren't authorized by JES Restaurant Equipment.
