Many businesses thrive on customer ratings, especially restaurants, which is why we want to give our readers a heads up on the recent changes in the online world of foodservice reviews.
With the growing popularity of Google+ the company has acquired Zagat, a well known customer review website where users could post up their opinions of restaurants and other establishments they have visited. What was previously Google Places will now be replaces with Google+ Local which will utilize Zagat’s criteria. Upon entering the Google+ local tab users can now see an assorted list of businesses which is categorized by industry. All locations will include a brief description of the establishment which was written by Zagat and a rating which is also based on Zagat’s 30-point system. Customer reviews will also be available.
While Google Places is still accessible it is expected to be phased out as the company pushes internet traffic towards Google+. Restaurants and other businesses who market through popular social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter may benefit from opening a Google+ account to take advantage of the future customer reviews.
