Waking up in Montgomery in a nice hotel is good, but at 52, there’s no place like home and my snugly bed. Young folks don’t understand this yet. Here we go… right leg on the floor. Ok, we good. Left leg…Yeah, that’s where two boys from Landrum High School decided I wasn't getting in the backfield on that play. Upright again…I win! Packing on Easter Sunday on route to NOLA, the first topic of discussion is “What do you feel like for breakfast?” Starbucks… YES! We agree. We head back up 85 North to the Starbucks, and a latte with a microwave breakfast. Not bad for microwave. They use a Turbo Chef Oven, and believe it or not, Turbo Chef turns out very good things. (Oh yea, by the way, we sell those.)
The ride to NOLA is uneventful, but the sights are good, and driving over the rivers and bayous is beautiful. Viv reminds me to keep my eyes on the road and not look for Gators. (Too much watching “Swamp People” I guess.) As we pull onto Canal St., I look at Viv and say “We ain't in Kansas anymore, Toto!) Different sights and people are everywhere. Not to say bad, just different. Check in time again. Oh boy! I unpack the car with the valet helping and head to lobby, to wait my turn. They were very nice and helpful, and gave us key cards, and sent us up to the room, saying our luggage would follow. I enter the room, and yep, you guessed it. Hell, Viv won’t have room to unpack her shoes, much less the rest of her stuff for a few days’ stay. The curtain is closed, so I head over to the window. Viv is watching silently. I pull the curtain back, and there it is…roof tops with A/C units! I hear a small breath exhaled from across the closet-sized room. Viv knows we’re movin!
The nice lady at the desk is great, and tells us to look at a room on the 38th floor. At about that time, the bell man arrives with our stuff. I look at Curtis, the bell man and say, “Don't think this will work.” Now coming from Calhoun Falls, I could really sleep on a tree root for a pillow and a pile of oak leafs for padding but as I said, I don't get out much, so off we go to floor 38 for what turns out to be a corner room overlooking the Mississippi River. Jackpot!
