What do you picture when I mention “American Cuisine”? And I don’t mean clam chowder or gumbo or some other regional dish like that. No — when I say “American Cuisine,” I’m talking about food popular across the entire country, eaten in all nine time zones. I’m not sure about you, but when I picture the food of America, I imagine paper plates topped with hot dogs, cheeseburgers, sausages, barbecue chicken, and maybe a little yellow corn thrown on the side. America is the land of milk and honey, true, but even more than that, we’re the land of sirloin skewers and baby back ribs. America is a nation of grillers.

Though Americans don’t lack for options when it comes to grills — Weber, R & V Works, Huntington, Viking Range, Wilmington… the list of American-made grills goes on and on — today we’re going to focus on one company in particular, Holland Grill.

The Holland Grill Company is a 27-year-old organization based in Georgia that makes grills a little differently from the rest of the herd. Holland just released two new medium-sized grills (the Freedom and the Independence) that follow the same grilling philosophy as Holland’s popular, older model, the Apex. They also released a third new model, which we’re particularly excited about, a mammoth-sized grill dubbed “The Pinnacle.”

The Mt. McKinley of Grills

So let’s talk about the Pinnacle first. It seems like Holland Grill has taken to heart our unofficial American motto of “Bigger is Better.” This thing is huge. It has a 5 foot shelf-to-shelf span, a nearly 3 foot deep grill surface, and a cooking grid with a total surface area of 726 square inches. Now those numbers sound pretty abstract, so let me break them down for you. The Pinnacle’s cooking surface can hold up to 8 genetically-enlarged, adult-sized chickens. It can hold 30 one-pound burger patties. It can hold up to 61 hot dogs… foot-longs.

This is a grill intended for backyard chefs who cater to big groups of large, red-blooded American meat lovers. It’s for people who are practically starving, who haven’t had anything to eat since breakfast.

Freedom of the Press

These units — the Pinnacle, the Freedom, and the Independence — work a little differently from your standard gas grill. For one, there’s never any contact between the food and the flames — a trough-shaped drip pan divides the cooking grid from the burner, so juice drops onto this pan instead of onto the burner. You could plop down an exceptionally juicy burger patty, wait for it to start sizzling, and use your spatula to press the patty deep against the grate until all its juices have poured out. I promise you, flames will not jump up at you. With these grills, there’s no chance of burner-flare. Never ever.

Secure Borders

As for the grate itself, this thing is so tightly latticed that small foods like fish and vegetables can’t fall through. And since it’s made up of stainless steel, it’ll never rust. Holland representatives are quick to mention that an extremely high percentage of customers hold onto their grills for decades without noticing any degradation whatsoever. Our customers are saying the same thing. They tell us that their Holland grills seem immortal.
