This is my first blog of the new year, so for that reason alone I felt the need to post a blog that might help everyone with their New Year’s Resolution. Since so many of us have losing weight at the top of our list of New Year’s Resolutions, I felt the need to share with you all a recipe on turkey spinach burgers. The initial thought of biting into a turkey and spinach burger may sound unappealing but mixed into patties and seasoned with garlic salt makes these burgers a delectable meal.
Ingredients
- ½ C. diced onion
- ½ C. diced celery
- 12 oz. ground turkey
- 1 small box frozen spinach
- 2 slices bread, made into crumbs
- ½ tsp. poultry seasoning
- 1 tsp. garlic salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 C. sunflower seeds
- Optional Mushroom Sauce:
- 1 small can of mushrooms
- 1/2 onion
- 1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp. garlic salt
- 1 tsp. pepper
- 2 C. water
- 2 Tbs. corn starch
- 1/4 C. water
Drain spinach and squeeze excess water out. Mix all ingredients. Divide evenly into patties and fry in nonstick skillet . 4 servings of 3 cakes each.
Mushroom Sauce Option: Brown one small can of mushrooms in the same skillet you fried the burgers in. Add more onions if you like. Add 2 cups of water to the skillet and bring to a boil. Add all the seasonings. Stir up 2 Tbs. cornstarch into about a 1/4 C. water. Add this mixture to the skillet stirring constantly until it starts to thicken. Add the burgers to the gravy and serve over rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes.
