With the current mass outbreak of coronavirus around the world, making sure your restaurant is clean is more important than ever. As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) keep stating, washing your hands is one of the most basic and important things you can do. While it may be especially vital now, making sure your employees and customers have access to the proper tools for hand washing should be part of your restaurant's routine. In the kitchen, there should be hand sinks available separate from the areas used to wash and prep food, as well as soap dispensers for easy access. In all restrooms, there should be sinks, soap dispensers, and hand dryers or paper towels so that customers and employees alike can safely and properly wash their hands before returning to the dining area.

Food safety is just as important as hand washing in keeping your restaurant as clean as possible. Several items such as ice scoops, klever box cutters, and color-coded cutting boards help ensure a cleaner environment for food preparation. Products like Force of Nature's eco-friendly, non-toxic, multi-purpose cleaner and kleen pails are ideal for thoroughly cleaning those food prep stations while insulated delivery bags ensure that the prepared food remains in an insulated environment until it reaches your customer.

A third area of focus to ensure clean and safe work spaces is the personal hygiene of the employees directly handling the food. Hair nets, beard nets, and gloves should always be worn while in the kitchen and while directly preparing food or handling items used during food preparation including handling dishes.

A recent advancement within the industry is the launch of a line of porcelain dinnerware from Syracuse China that integrates Microban technology, protecting your dinnerware from a wide range of bacteria. A line of Microban Melamine from World Tableware also supports a 99.9% cleaner surface.

Although most of these practices should be commonplace in any restaurant, it's especially important now, with the spread of novel coronavirus, to strengthen your restaurant's cleaning practices and add additional steps to ensure a clean and sanitized environment.
